Artist statement: A portrait of a young queer couple gleefully embracing. The photo provides insight into how people within the LGBTQ community do not need to fit into a stereotypical idea of a relationship in order to be truly happy with one another, as seen through the smiling couple holding each other close.

Artist statement: A portrait of a young person whose eyes have been shielded. This underlines the shared LGBTQ experience of feeling unable to show your true self to others due to overpowering obstacles such as fear, discrimination or judgement – as represented by the hands that are preventing the full face from being shown.
from the series Lost, found, in love
Artist statement: A depiction of two torsos intertwined in each other’s arms, underlining how when a human being chooses to hold and love another – regardless of gender identity, pronouns and/or sexual orientation – it is an equal and valuable love that is its own unique artwork.
from the series Lost, found, in love
Artist statement: A depiction of two hands closely interlocked in the foreground of the frame, bringing to mind the concept of how prejudice and preconceptions can potentially be dissolved when the rest of the human exterior is removed from the picture.

Claudia van Kollenburg (they/them) is a budding young photographer from the south-east suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. They are currently studying photography and photo-imaging at Photography Studies College in South Melbourne, and enjoy shooting a variety of subjects with their Canon DSLR, from landscapes and wildlife to portraiture. They have recently shot and provided images for clients such as Transport Heritage NSW and Seymour Railway Heritage Centre, and am beginning to exhibit their work in galleries such as the Monash Gallery of Art in Wheelers Hill and (this June) Gasworks Arts Park in Albert Park. They look forward to their future photography endeavors and travelling around with their camera.
